Accomplishments

From the important achievements we have gained to benefit the society throughout our history, we can highlight the following:

Conservation of more than 1,100,000 acres of forests, wetlands, and marine environments; the federal and State Governments have decreed the establishment of 13 protected natural areas proposed by Amigos de Sian Ka'an.

In 2012 we launched in partnership with the Ministry of tourism of Quintana Roo planning guide for the design and sustainable construction in the Mexican Caribbean.

We achieved the exploration of 380 km2 of the watershed of Tulum through electromagnetic aerial mapping.

This has determined the approximate download time of pollutants that flow through the system Ox Bel Ha.

 

Conservation of marine environments, after achieving the establishment of 6 marine protected areas proposed or driven to ASK - PN Isla Contoy, RB Sian Ka 'an, RB reefs of Sian Ka' an, APFF Isla Cozumel, PN reefs of Xcalak, RB Caribbean Mexican.

 

Historical characterization of 90% of the Mesoamerican Reef in Mexico.

 

At the behest of ASK and TNC is carried out in Tulum between the heads of State and Government of Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and Mexico. Its purpose was the creation of the project of the Mesoamerican Reef System  (SAM in Spanish), sponsored by the World Bank.

 

Two international awards in relation to the conservation of marine environments:

 

  1. Henry 1997 Award. To facilitate the meeting of 4 leaders for the signing of the "Declaration of Tulum" for the conservation of the Mesoamerican Reef.

  2. Recognition of the coastal resources of the University of Rhode Island Center, 2002, for the dedication and commitment to the successful management of coastal environments.

 

One marine planning, the first of its kind in Mexico, on the coast of the Riviera Maya.

 

ASK, with support from TNC identified three important sites of reproductive aggregation of fish, who currently give tracking other CSOs.

 

3 islands of the RB Banco Chinchorro have been freed of Black Rat (Rattus rattus) and feral cat (Felis catus) after 4 years of eradication.

 

Design of a campaign of monitoring and control of cardinalfish in rio Hondo.

 

 

In April 2011, working with the Government of Quintana Roo, we achieved the Decree of three new protected areas in Cozumel, the Chichankanab lagoon and laguna Bacalar, adding 30,000 hectares.

For 27 years, we have collaborated with 37 of Mayan communities in the generation of sustainable products that promote the local economy. We promote the creation of Community collective marks such as Ak Kuxtal, Pitahi and the Mayaka'ab company.

Active participation in the processes of design, review and modification of the General water law and the NOM-001

Completion of guide:  Guía de Mejores prácticas para  uso sustentable de cuevas, cavernas, grutas y cenotes (Guide for better practices for the sustainable use of caves, caverns, and cenotes) and the Manual of wastewater treatment plants.

Advances in environmental education on the conservation of the aquifer through the program Eres agua, ¡Toma conciencia!

 

 

We positioned Sian Ka'an as a worldwide attraction, and with local communities, we have created the most important project in ecotouristim in the Yucatan Peninsula.

We have generated one of the largest clusters of knowledge about the Mayan Uderwater. Using cutting edge technology, we have generates unique maps of rivers and groundwater.

Educational campaign of environmental services "¡Buen día selva! Yo cuidaré de ti".

Awareness campaign "How to care for our ecosystems from invasive alien species".

Cultural route and educational sustainability in motion: "Reefs forever".

172,999 informed people (facebook, twitter, print media and local television, informative talks and surveys) about the importance and values of the coral reef, marine biodiversity and biosecurity measures against alien species.

 

5 articles of research on electromagnetic mapping and modelling of the aquifer of Tulum have been published.

The creation of the Grupo Promotor de Conexión al Drenaje was created in the municipality of Solidaridad.

Workshops about our program "Eres agua, ¡Toma conciencia!" with a total range of approximately 54,409 people (2016).

An educational notebook of the same program was created for teachers and environmental educators.
